Ours starts with a puzzle.
Several years ago, a friend of mine suggested that I make a puzzle.
I was exploring different life and career paths and she was convinced making a puzzle was the solution. “On every piece of the puzzle, write down one thing you are passionate about,” she said. If I did this, my next step would become clear. I was not convinced the puzzle was the solution to my life’s work, but not wanting to disappoint her, I did as I was instructed.
I have to admit, the process was fun! My puzzle pieces highlighted elements such as helping clients reach their big goals, consulting, improvisational comedy, coaching, creating impactful experiences, transformation and facilitation. Once complete, I left the puzzle on my kitchen table and life went on as usual. Several months went by and nothing.
Until one day…
I was having a hallway conversation with a colleague of mine at work. We were discussing how to improve the culture on our team. With absolutely no warning, I shouted out “What about applying improvisation in business?” I was as surprised as she was with my out-of-left-field (and unnecessarily loud) comment. It was true that I had been taking improvisational comedy classes and experiencing positive results in my life, both on stage and off stage. Improvisational comedy was teaching me to be more open and receptive to ideas. I was learning how to co-create better. The result? I felt more in the flow and was producing more interesting work with others. But this idea of applying it to business was a revelation. At the same time, it seemed so obvious. A year and a half later, ActUp was born.
My passion now is helping individuals and businesses ActUp, or take radical action for their personal and professional development. To do better, be better and live better. Whether it is coaching, business planning, improvisation or a puzzle that you need, we are here to help you figure out how to best share your unique talents with the world.
What’s the story you want to create?
